Peter is a senior private Equity Practitioner and experienced Non-Executive Director in both the profit and not-for-profit sectors. Until November 2007 he was Chairman of Endless LP, a niche ‘special situations’ private equity business, with 3 offices in the UK and he continues to hold a number of Advisory Board and Non Executive roles linked to private equity.
Formerly, Peter was a Partner at 3i Growth Capital where he was responsible for managing 3i’s majority and minority equity investments in a range of companies.
Shimi Shah is Executive Director and Chair of Carousel Solutions and has more than 20 years investment and venture capital experience working for companies including FORSA LLC, Partnerships UK (PUK) and Hanson Capital.
In her current role Shimi works with SMEs, family offices and private equity and sovereign wealth funds to expand in and out of the Middle East and Europe.
Shimi holds an advisory board role with StartAd, board director position with Bboxx and she is also chair of leading kid’s club design company Worldwide Kids Club.
Raymond is the former Managing Director of Alliance Trust Equity Partners (ATEP) and Albany Venture Managers and has over 26 years’ experience in private equity and venture capital. He has been responsible for strategy and investment and has built and sold his own venture capital business.
Raymond has recently taken on the Chairmanship of a Scottish based software business, Intelligent Environmental Solutions. He is also the Chairman of Foresight 3 VCT plc and Vice Chairman of Scottish Building Society.
Richard Green is a Chartered Accountant and experienced private equity and venture capital investor. He joined Kleinwort Benson Development Capital Ltd in 1988 and was a founder in 2001 of the spin-out business which became August Equity LLP, where he was managing partner until 2009 and then chairman until his retirement in April 2014.
He is a past chairman of the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association and is currently the non-executive chairman of Technology Venture Partners LLP. Richard is also a non-executive director of Northern Venture Trust PLC, Hydrogen Group PLC and Qannas Investments Limited, as well as being a member of the Advisory Board of North East Finance.
Trained as a chartered accountant, Jason is responsible for the monitoring and reporting of the funds in addition to managing the financial systems of the business and liaising with the European Investment Bank and other stakeholders. He has worked in regional venture capital for the past 13 years, having joined NStar in 2004 helping to establish and manage the North East Proof of Concept Fund and the North East Co Investment Fund. In 2010, Jason transferred to North East Finance where he served as finance director throughout the investment life of the North East JEREMIE Fund.
Helen is the Executive Director for the North East LEP and Chief Executive of the North East Combined Authority. Helen leads the delivery of the North East Strategic Economic Plan, working with partners to grow the local economy. Her previous experience includes over twenty years in a number of local government roles in planning, regeneration, economic development and corporate governance. She has extensive programme and fund management experience with responsibility for delivering a wide range of programmes and commercial negotiations.
Helen is also the interim Chief Executive of the North East Combined Authority, focussed on economic growth, job creation and investment into the region.
During an extensive career with Barclays Bank, Alan held a number of senior corporate appointments in London, New York and latterly as Corporate Director for the North East & Cumbria.
Subsequently he engaged in a wide range of consultancy assignments on a self-employed basis, and acted as Non- Executive Chairman for the Yorkshire Bank in the North East.
He is currently Chairman of Governors at Barnard Castle School, and has also served on the boards of both Darlington College and various of the North East Regional Investment Funds.
This latter experience he considers to be particularly relevant to his new responsibilities with the North East Fund.
Aside from his business interests he is a very keen mountain walker.
Nick Badman has extensive experience of both entrepreneurship and the UK SME segment gained as an investor, advisor and director.
After qualification and early practise as a corporate lawyer with Clifford Chance, Nick had an 18 year executive career with 3i Group – latterly as UK Managing Director and a Senior Partner in its Pan European Buyout Business. Subsequently Nick established and led a Centre for Entrepreneurship and an innovative early stage investment fund at Cass Business School, City, University of London - where he continues as a Visiting Professor focussed on entrepreneurship.
Nick currently advises a number of SMEs on growth and financing issues and sits as an external member on the Investment Committees of Albion Ventures, Angel CoFund and Venturesome – the impact investing activities of Charities Aid Foundation.
